Guide to Gearing Up in Dragon Nest

A guide to the different types of gear and how you can make your character more OP.

Getting good gear is a big part of this game and it never stops. Every few months new content comes out bringing new items that can help you get more powerful. At times people may say "Don't bother gearing right now because something new is coming soon". I say bother - something else is always coming.

Before we discuss gear:
  • More important than gear is to learn to play your class! Find a guide that explains the skills and suggests the optimal way to gear for your class.
  • PVE or PVP? - This guide will concentrate on PVE
  • Gear is not just about equipping weapons: enhancements, plates, talisman, accessories, gems, title and wellspring also contribute to your stats
While Leveling
  • Don't worry too much about gear while leveling. Save gold until end-game. You will level so fast that you will need to keep replacing with higher level gear.
  • Increasing your damage can help you grind faster so you should enhance your weapons and try to increase your damage but there is not much point in enhancing armors or stacking hp/def until level cap.
  • The right skill plates will last you forever also there is limited availability it is worth watching the market and getting skill plates when they are available.
  • Some decent lower level gear can be easily obtained from the daredevil fare, battle dragon nests and faction shops.
  • NX items from dragon eggs or costumes can be used at a low level so if you want to spend real world money there is no need to wait until level cap.

Gradual Gearing:
  • Do not expect to complete your gear the day after your reach level cap - it will take weeks or months, then new things will come out.
  • Equip all the gear you can filling all slots then improve each item, then repeat, then repeat, then repeat. As you get more geared the costs to improving your gear will increase substantially.
  • I suggest start with rare gear, move onto an epics, then better epics, then maybe LGrades from previous level cap or unique from current cap (when available)

    Priorities:
    • Make party support your #1 priority
      • Important even for dps classes but remember if you play a support class you are expected to support.
      • Get epic cooldown or buff duration plates for any support skills
      • Use tech accessories to increase buff % if possible
    • Base damage next
      • Find out if your skills deal magic or physical damage
      • Magic classes (like LK,warden, adept, sorc, priest) should try to get intellect to increase magic damage
      • Physical based classes should try to get agility and strength to increase physical damage
      • Strength adds more physical damage for guardians, warriors, kali
      • Agility adds more physical damage for tinks, archer and machina
      • You can the most amount of damage from using highly enhanced weapons
    • Survival next ie. HP/vit/def
      • These are still very important because you can't do damage if you are dead
    • Damage multipliers last
      • Still important but the higher your base damage the more affect the multipliers will have
      • Critical gives a chance to deal double damage (or more). Aim for high crit but no need to get max because if you have an archer in the party their buf will help you.
      • Final damage adds a % to any damage. It is the most expensive stat to get and the more you get the higher the return. Get what you can but prioritize base damage
      • Similar to final damage some classes have skills that deal elemental damage (fire/light/dark/ice). Increasing elemental stats will add a percentage to those attacks
      Stats
      • See my guide to stats for specifics of how different stats work for different classes, etc.
      lv90 Equipment Comparison
      • lv80 epic equipment is still obtainable but is not worthwhile unless pre-enhanced to a high level.
      • lv80 red dragon unique equipment comes from clearing RDN and can be purchased in the marketplace. It has lower stats than lv90 epic equipment but makes up for this with an extra gem slot and set bonuses. Unique equipment is harder to enhance than epic so might be more costly.
      • Level 80 weapons are an option to start out if you plan to get LGrades soon since they use the same gems.
      • Cauda epics are obtained from nests or dungeons and are tradable and found in the marketplace but have slightly lower stats than other epic gear. It is good for starting out with.
      • Felis, Coma, and Nightmare epics can not be traded and must be obtained from nests or from shops. Coma armors and Nightmare weapons are good. If you enhance cauda gear you can transfer the enhancement to coma/nightmare.
      • Felis, Coma, and Nightmare epic can be converted into uniques and they keep the enhancement level. It takes a while to collect all the materials for this but is a good goal for non-lgrade players.
      • Nightmare weapons are obtained from nightmare shop. You need to run all starlight garden for several weeks to obtain. Note that collecting the untradable items to upgrade nightmare to unique takes a long time.
      • Cor-nura epics can be obtained from nests however are very rare. These can be traded and have the same stats as nightmare but with a slightly better set bonus.
      • lv90 uniques are expensive to enhance. It is much more cost effective to transfer enhancement from epics.
      • lv80 red dragon legendary equipment is only obtainable from clearing RDN HC multiple times. This equipment is the best in the game and is not tradable.
      • Unless you are getting RDN L grade I suggest buy any pre-enhanced cauda piece from the market (or enhance any cauda piece to high level without jellies -(you might break a few but materials are cheap). Then transfer the enhancement to coma epic. Then collect coma shards (takes a while) and upgrade the coma epic weapon to coma unique.
      Set Bonuses
      • Various gear give bonus stats when multiple items from the same set are worn.
      • Set bonuses on NX costumes may still be given when mixing some costumes with different appearances but only if the set bonuses are the same.
      Gems / Sparks
      • New gear all uses dragon gems
        • These can be swapped out so make sure you have gems in all your equipment
        • Lower level or rare gems can be used in higher level or epic equipment until you get better.
        • Low level gems are found in nests and dungeons
        • lv70 average gems are better than lv80 rare gems, lv70 quality gems are about the same as normal level 80 gems, lv80 quality gems are better again. Level 90 gems give additional stats and can be enhanced and are what you should be using in level 90 equipment.
        • Most lv90 gems come in two varieties, one with crit and one with hp.
        • When starting out you can easily obtain low level epic gems from shops, use low level rares if you don't have epics
Only old gear uses sparks - also known as hidden abilities
        • Since these add percentage to several stats lower level gear with sparks can be as good as the latest high level gear for certain classes
      Accessories (rings, necklace, earrings):
      • Epic Accessories
        • These are a good choice if legendary accessories are not affordable
        • Look closely at the stats as some items have additional stats.
      • Technique Accessories
        • These give +1 to a skill allowing you to get skills higher than at lv90
        • These give random stats when created so it can take quite a few attempts to make one with decent stats. Tech accessories with perfect stats cost a lot in the market but it can be a lot cheaper to buy these than to craft over and over.
        • All stats are replaced when crafted so use the cheapest epic accessories you can find to craft
      • Legendary Accessories
        • Obtainable from hardcore dragon nests
        • Unlike legendary armors and weapons these can be traded
        • As well as having decent stats these also provide set bonuses. Some lv60 desert dragon legendary accessories are still good for lv90 if they have good sparks
      Plates / Crest
      • Skill Plates
Make sure you have plates for the all the right skills for your class
        • Buy pouches with dimensional fragments (obtained from the bunny at the end of abyss dungeons)
        •  Power leveling new guild members is a good way to farm dimensional fragments
      • Enhancement Plates
        •  You can get epic enhancement plates from dungeons, nests or the ladder shop
        •  Some low level epic plates can be bought from the daredevil fare shop.
        •  Only one of each type of plate can be worn
        •  If you are lucky you may craft a plate with a 3rd stat. These are worth a lot and may be worth selling instead of using if you are under-geared.
      • Unique Enhancement Plates
        • Unique plates are currently only found in the ladder shop or you can get from mercenary exploration
        • You have four additional slots for these
        • Stats vary a lot between the same types of plates
      • Special Plates
        • Only a few special plates gave skills that are useful and even then they are not very useful. These are not obtainable since T5.
      • Destroying Plates
        • You can pay to get a plate removed but this is no reason to keep plate slots empty. If you have a sub-optimal plate just equip it anyway then right click the plate to destroy it for free when you get something better.
      • Third Line Plates
        • Enhancement plates usually only have two stats. Those that come with a 3rd stat can be very rare and worth a lot.
      Wellspring
      • Wellspring expire however you can buy new ones from the citadel of erosion shop each week so there is no reason not to always be wearing one
      • Most wellspring you get are magic grade and expire after one day
      • It is possible to get rare, epic or even unique wellspring. These have higher stats and last longer (epic/unique last for one month). Epic and unique wellspring can be sold for reasonable amounts in the marketplace.

      Titles
It is worthwhile to get a good title:
      • New Wind - helps a lot with leveling when you first join a guild
      • Destiny Seeker - 1500 damage (but only lasts for a month) - obtained from completing main quests
      • Manticore Expert, Returned - from nest achievements - decent for elemental classes
      • Dark Knight - from citadel - for non-elemental classes
      • The best titles in the game can be obtained from pouches bought with  laments. They are hard to get but it is worth doing lots of daily quests.
      Tailsman
      • In the past talismans had many different grades - normal crude, normal average, magic crude, magic average, quality, rare. Now it is just normal, quality, rare. Equip what you can and upgrade when you can.
      • Make sure your more important talisman are in the 200% slots
      • Quality and rare talisman can give an extra stat. These normally sell for high prices.
      • Unless lv80 rare have an extra stat quality lv90 are currently the best
      • Some special talisman like ultimate (increases FD) and fortuitous (increases gold dropped) can be obtained by extracting highly enhanced equipment
      • Elemental talisman can be obtained from dark banquet
      Enhancing
      • Enhancing weapons is the best ways to increase your damage (and should be done as a priority)
      • Enhanced main weapon gives more damage than enhanced off hand weapon (eg. +8 main, +7 off hand is better than +7 main, +8 offhand)
      • Enhancing armors mostly increases your HP
      • Certain armors give more HP when enhanced than others (eg. +8 shirt, +7 boots gives more HP than +7 shirt, +8 boots)
      • When enhancing there is a chance for the enhancement to fail or even to lower (for example to go from +7 back to +6). This can make enhancing to high levels very expensive
      • As your enhancement increases there is higher chance for failure. Enhancing past +12 is only for the rich and lucky
      • If you enhance without jellies there is a chance for the item to break. This risk is very acceptable for cheaper gear
      • Enhancing past +9 is essential for end game content however there is a risk the item will go back to +6.
      • Instead of enhancing you can buy an pre-enhanced item and transfer the enhancement to your item. This can be much more economical.
      • It is worth enhancing gems to at least +5, going higher takes more materials
      Legendary Armour / Weapons
      • These cannot be traded so are only obtainable by clearing hard core raids
      • Level 70 LGrades are better than lv90 epics, lv80 LGrades are the most powerful in the game
      • These cost a lot to enhance - especially to high levels
      • If you have enough gold you may be able to pay for a team to carry your character through hardcore mode so that you can get lgrade equipment
      • See my guide to lgrade enhancement costs
      Costume
      • If you have NX to spend the set bonuses on a magic costume help with stats
      • New rare costumes in the cash shop are almost as good as old synthesized epic costumes.
      • It can be useful to have costume weapons to add +1 to certain skills (for example for clerics heal)
      • Epic costumes give more stats that magic and can be synthesized from magic costumes with an NX item. These can also be bought and sold in the market
      • Costume accessories can help a little with stats. The green spark rings add elemental damage so are a must for classes with elemental skills or conversion
      • Certain costume items can be found in the market, treasure dungeon or are given out in events
      Wings
      • Wings increase movement speed and should be worn by all players
      • Basic magic grade wings can be bought with NX, in the marketplace, or found in dragon eggs
      • Rare wings are best and are only available inside dragon eggs or from certain events
      • If you join an established guild that has completed their achievements you can buy 30day rare wings from the guild window
      Pets
      • Pets give a very small boost to stats but not in raids
      • Worth having only for picking up items dungeons
      • Available in cash shop or from seasonal events
      Hero Level
      • After you reach levelcap you can continue to increase your hero level for additional stats
      • This can be increased by clearing rdn, nests, or dungeons. RDN and HC nests give the most points per clear.
      • Guild masters can purchase a bonus that grants you additional hero level
      • You can buy potions that increase your hero level from several shops.
      • Hero level is shared between all characters on your account.
      Unified Level
      • As you get more characters your unified level will increase.
      • In the skills window you can see extra unified skills.
      • Make sure you equip these for bonus damage/hp/etc.
      Guild Bonuses
      • Guild masters can purchase bonuses that give all guild members extra stats
      Damage comparison of enhanced gear.
While these numbers are for lv60/70 gear the comparison in the same for lv90 gears. Hopefully you can see that enhancing weapons is very necessary.
      • Comparing +6 xbows for warden (ie. magic damage)
      • Note that I don't show set bonus or the extra stats you get from the gems on your other gear.
      • +6 lv60 Epic (tribe): 2800
+6 lv70 Rare: 3338 (rares are so cheap you should be able to go past +6 without jellies)
        +6 lv60 unique (ddn): 4378
        +6 lv70 epic: 4933
+6 lv60 lgrade: 6988 (these are not tradable - you need to clear ddn hardcore to get)
        .
      • I strongly recommend enhancing past +6
        +7 lv70 epic: 5487 (554 more)
        .
      • Here are stats for +10:
        +10 lv60 Epic: 4057
        +10 lv70 Rare: 4983
        +10 lv60 Unique (ddn): 6239
        +10 lv70 Epic: 7505
