General Guide to Dragon Nest Skill Builds

I got skill builds wrong so many times but think I figured it out now - mostly.

Good skill builds help a lot and resets cost NX so it is very important to get these right once you reach level cap. Let me know if anything here is misleading.

Skill reset scrolls:
  • These expire within 24hrs so if you get make sure you use it straight away or it will be gone
  • Nexon sometimes although rarely give out skill resets with events (I have seen this three times in the last year)
  • You get a skill reset at lv16 from Irene. I suggest not completing this quest - just learn all the skills you can and try them all out.
  • You also get free skill resets in lv30,50 and 58 levelup reward chests. I suggest not opening these chests until you reach level cap.
  • Your final two free resets are from PVP rank. The 2nd of these takes a long time to get.
  • You can buy a one time skill reset from the dragon vault for 12900 NX
  • If you buy dragon eggs with NX these can contain skill resets
  • Keep spare skill resets even if you are lv80 because the developers sometimes change the way characters skills work and you may want to rebuild when they do this.
  • Finally you can now buy skill reset in game from the npc with gold

When you are a low level:
Making sure you have a perfect build at all times is going to be very expensive I suggest not worrying about your build until level cap and see two options to save the resets:
  • Learn everything - this what I have done in the past. Your skills will be weak and your skill bar will be full but at least you can see what things do.
  • Start making your lv80 build - I tried this once from lv1 and it was extremely hard as the lv80 build didn't have much in the base skill tree. It is good to do though once you get your 2nd specialisation.

Skill simulators
Building skills in-game is awkward and easy to mess up. I recommend to always build in a simulator first. This allows you to play around with different options with a better UI. Once you have your perfect build post it to the forums (ours or the nexon ones) and ask for some feedback just in case you missed something.

My favorite simulator right now is http://dnss.herokuapp.com

PVP/PVE:
I advise against using hybrid PVP/PVE builds. Sure use a couple of SP to add some skills that help in PVP but don't go too far or your character won't be suitable for the newest nests and raids.
I see these options:
  • Just use PVE builds in PVP - this is what I do but I am not a big PVPer.
  • If you only PVP and will never run nests then just make a PVP build potentially excluding any blacklist skills from your build
  • If you do both regularly you should invest 14900NX in a dual skill scroll and have separate builds for each
  • Another option is to create two characters - one for pve, one for pve

Class specific:
Don't always believe what it says in the skill descriptions. There are detailed guides and forum discussions for almost every class. Do some reading and learn your skills. Remember that people do get things wrong and things change so make sure what your reading is up to date. Also make sure you read the right thing (eg. a sniper build is no good for a warden)

Pretty much all classes have certain skills (eg. for party support) that are a must:
  • Some skills you are expected to max (and tech)
  • Some skills you should learn but there is no point going past level 1
  • Some skills are considered completely pointless to learn and a waste of sp

Existing builds:
One way to get a good build is to just use a build from an experienced player. Look in the forum for your class and there will be lots of people giving out their builds. Make sure you don't just take one build as gospel. It might be really bad. Look at a few and the comments and justifications people have.

Skills everyone should learn:
I suggest that every class should always max Tumble, Ariel evasion and Health Bolster. Most classes have a skill that helps them get up faster this is also useful to learn. If your class has a mastery skill (those that increase damage by a %) should be maxed.

What level to make the skills:
There are some skills that are so good that they should always be max. This is not the case for most skills. As you increase a skills level the % damage, etc goes up at different amounts. You should notice at some levels it goes up more than others. For example guided missiles:
lv10 128%+2541
lv11 144%+3272 - an increase of 16%+734
lv12 147%+3377 - an increase of 3%+105
lv13 150%+3492 - an increase of 3%+115
So going to level 11 gives a big boost to damage but maxing the skill (lv13 is max for lv70) gives hardly anything extra. For warden that SP is better used in other skills. This is the same for most skills so make sure you keep an eye out for the ideal level to make it.

Mana:
It can be a difficult decision on how much if any SP to give Mental Fortitude and Attuned Mind. If your class deals magic damage your are probably stacking int and will have high mp anyway. Also some NX items (like tails) add a little mp recovery. Also light bringer meditate recovers you mana when you are near them. It really depends if you run out in nests? There is a detailed and slightly out of date guide here: http://dragonnest.nexon.net/communit...ed%26nxid%3D62

Skill bar:
I doubt you will find any guides on how to populate your skill bar as it is mostly personal preference. You have two and you can switch them with the ~ key. For me I use similar skills in the same positions for each character. Also I normally have skills and bufs with long cooldowns on my alternate skill bars so that I rarely need to switch.

As you level up you may find you have too many skills and its getting hard to reach to all the numbers the - and + buttons on your keyboard. I advise to get an MMO mouse - these have 12 extra buttons on the mouse for your skills. I use a Logitech g600 which cost me $50AUD but there are other models around.
